Every girl deserves to see herself in the world she aspires to be a part of.
Growing up, I always wanted to see someone who looked like me in tech. Now, I’m proud to say that I’ve created something that represents not just me, but an entire community of incredible black girls in tech!
My passion for coding started when I was 11, and I would have LOVED to have these on my first laptop. I wanted stickers and accessories that showcased girls who looked like me. These stickers feature black girls embracing the world of technology (and noodles because… yum), breaking stereotypes, and showing that Black girls belong in tech!
Stickers are one way that we find out what we have in common. We have stickers from our favorite brands, musicians we love, and little sayings on our laptops and water bottles that tell people who we are and what we love. It may seem like a small thing, but they start conversations and help us build community.
These stickers are not just about decoration; they’re about empowerment. It’s about telling young girls and women that they belong, they can dream big, and they can break through any barriers. As I reflect on my own journey in tech, I feel a sense of responsibility to create a positive impact for the little girls who were once like me.
To the young girls out there, dreaming of a future in tech – these stickers are for you. To the women who have been waiting for a fun way to represent what they love – these stickers are for you too. To the allies who want Black girls to see themselves in tech – these stickers are for you.
I hope they bring a smile to your face, inspire you, your classmates, and your teammates, and remind you that the possibilities for inclusion in tech are endless.
The stickers are available on my website, Lemonerdy.com. Thank you to those who follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, and purchased these during the soft launch in November.
What would be your first thought if you saw one of my stickers on a laptop or water bottle at your school or in your office?
