At Lemonerdy University, we focus on peer to peer experiences. Studies have shown that people learn more quickly and retain more when they are taught by their peers. As we enter our beta phase, we invite you to try one of our free courses. Welcome to Lemonerdy U!

What We Teach

We have courses designed to help you learn to code step by step, as well as special discussions on careers in technology to keep you thinking ahead.

Scratch

Scratch is a free, block-based programming language and community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations.

I learned to love coding when I started learning Scratch. Learn to make games, slideshows, and more!

HTML

The HyperText Markup Language or HTML is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser.

HTML is important because it gives websites their fonts, colors, and more! You can use HTML to do some very cool things.

CSS, Python, JavaScript, and more!

If you dream it, you can code it! There's so much to learn. Let's dream (and code) together...

About Lemonerdy U

Lemonerdy University, or Lemonerdy U as we like to call it, is a place for people to learn how to code, about careers in tech, and more. Eden started her Lemonerdy YouTube channel in 2018, and since then, she has shared many coding tutorials with her subscribers. At Lemonerdy U, you can access many older tutorials in course format with quizzes, feedback, and certificates.

Students

Schools

Students can log in and take courses to learn to code and watch seminars and discussions on careers in tech. Registered students can join live discussions and live online coding sessions.

Schools and teachers can assign courses to their students. Students can download or print out certificates of completion and turn them in as assignments. In person and virtual Lemonerdy U workshops are available for schools as well.

Meet the Co-Founders

Eden Wilson

Eden Wilson is a YouTube Partner, brand ambassador, entrepreneur, speaker, champion rhythmic gymnast, a former competitor on Lifetime’s Child Genius, and Miss Chicago’s Outstanding Teen 2020-2021 and Miss Hyde Park’s Outstanding Teen 2022. Her goal is to inspire everyone to share their stories and pursue their dreams by sharing her various hobbies and talents on her YouTube channel – from reading, coding, and trying interesting foods to making crafts, cooking, and hanging out with her friends.

Eden is a principal’s list honor student, a member of the National Junior Honor Society, National Computer Science Honor Society, and a member of Best Buddies Illinois. She enjoys learning sign language and tutoring kids with Chicago Teen Mentors.

David Wilson

David is an award-winning artist and designer, a 2X founder, photographer, videographer, and editor. He appeared in his first Lemonerdy video in 2018, and has been working behind the scenes for over five years, watching Lemonerdy grow into an international platform and brand.

He joined the Lemonerdy University team as a technical co-founder, and in March of 2023, he pitched Lemonerdy U on the SXSW EDU Student Startup Competition stage alongside Eden in Austin, Texas. In October 2023, he will once again pitch on stage, but this time the team will be in Seattle, Washington for the T-Mobile Changemaker Challenge. Eden and David are not only T-Mobile Changemaker Challenge Finalists, but they are also the Digital Empowerment Category winners.

David is attending Morehouse College in the Fall of 2024.

Here’s how Lemonerdy University came to be!

January 16, 2018YouTube Channel Launched

YouTube Channel

I uploaded my first video on my YouTube channel in January 2018. By the time I started my channel, my dad was already teaching me how to code. I was learning HTML, CSS, and PHP. I was hesitant at first, but I really enjoyed learning how to code games on Scratch.

First Scratch Coding Videos

In January 2019, I uploaded a tour of my Lemonade stand game. Shortly after I uploaded it, I did a quick tutorial on how I made it. In April 2019, that game was featured on the Scratch website.

June 6, 2021Won First Pitch Competition

In June 2021, after making several Scratch coding tutorials and teaching students how to code in Scratch virtually, I pitched my idea for Lemonerdy U in a pitch competition and won!

March 2023SXSW EDU and Beta Launch of Lemonerdy U

Lemonerdy U at SXSW EDU + Beta

While having my tutorials streaming on Sensical by Common Sense Media and launching a brand new Advanced Scratch course on DIY.org, I wrote, filmed, and uploaded course videos on my own learning platform, Lemonerdy U, and pitched the platform at SXSW EDU as a finalist in the Student Startup Competition.
